TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2022) — US Youth Soccer National League P.R.O. hosted its second 15U-19U Girls event of the season, as half of the teams in those age groups competed Feb. 5-7 at the Tournament Sportsplex of Tampa Bay in Florida. The event also featured showcase matches, played Feb. 4-6.

Each girls team in the 15U-19U age groups has now played its two P.R.O. events, and only a handful of seventh games remain to complete their seasons. Top-finishing National League P.R.O. teams (12 per gender age group) earn direct advancement to the USYS National Championships, and the results at National League Florida saw 23 girls teams punch their tickets to Nationals, with seven of those sides claiming National League P.R.O. group titles.

Tom Holevas, coach for Libertyville FC 1974 Elite 06G (IL), said his team was motivated entering the season, and it paid off after the players qualified for the 2022 USYS National Championships.

“They have worked tirelessly for this goal. I have been with this group since U12, so I have been with them for five years and they set the goal to get here before the end of their club career,” Holevas said. “This is an outstanding achievement, and I’m so excited for them. It means a tremendous amount to the team. This will be our club’s third trip to Nationals, but this will be the first trip with this group and they wanted it from the minute they entered National League P.R.O.”

Holevas also talked about the competition in National League P.R.O. this season and how the challenge of the season will help his players moving forward.

“You are playing some of the best teams in the nation at National League P.R.O.,” Holevas said. “So, the measuring stick is that the top players in the country are here. Being able to go up against these players and teams makes us just that much stronger and forces us to develop to continue to be better.”
