Standings taking shape as 13U teams continue 2020-21 Piedmont Conference season in South Carolina

IRMO, S.C. (March 2, 2021) — The US Youth Soccer Piedmont Conference 2020-21 season continued for the 13U Boys and Girls Divisions over the weekend, as 16 Georgia and South Carolina teams competed at SCUFC West Soccer Complex in Irmo, S.C.

Standings are starting to take shape as the midway point of the 2020-21 season for the 13U age groups approaches. This weekend saw teams competing at the top of their game as they try to establish themselves at the top of their bracket.

In the 13U Boys age group, Charleston SC 08B Premier (SC) picked up two victories over the weekend to improve to 4-0-0. The team has currently allowed the fewest goals in the age group this conference season. Charleston SC 08B Premier head coach Chad Carithers talked about what he attributes to his team’s early success this season.

This weekend we did a great job at being patient when in possession of the ball, and we capitalized on our scoring chances,” Carithers said. “I talk to my team all the time about getting off to a good start. No matter if it's the first game of the season, first game of a tournament, first half or second half. It has been awesome to see them step up and perform like I know they can.  We still have a lot of soccer left to play this season, so my goal is to make sure we bring the effort and mindset for our remaining games.”

Carithers also talked about what it means to his team to play in the Piedmont Conference and how important the high level of competition is throughout the season.

So far, it has been a great experience and honor to be part of the Piedmont Conference,” Carithers said. “It's always good to play against different teams and challenge yourself to see if what you have been working on in practice translates to the games. By playing in a higher-level competition like the Piedmont Conference, it allows our players to grow individually and as a team. Hopefully, we continue to learn and grow throughout the season and get better.”

In the 13U Girls age group, CFC Red Star 08G Elite (GA) currently holds the top spot in the standings after picking up two wins over the weekend. The team hasn’t allowed a goal yet this season. CFC Red Star 08G Elite head coach Eric Steinhauser talked about his team getting a great start to the weekend and the importance of keeping that momentum going.

These two victories were big for us. We have been led by a strong defense all year and that continued this weekend,” said Steinhauser. “The girls play extremely hard and play for each other, which is a big reason they were able to walk away with two wins.

“For us to come away with six points this weekend and 10 through the first four games, it puts us in a great position. We know we still have a lot to improve on, and the girls are training hard each week working to get better.”

Steinhauser also talked about the goals the club has for their teams and how the competition within the Piedmont Conference helps them achieve those goals.

“For our club, our goal is qualify our top teams into the Piedmont Conference,” Steinhauser said. “We like the fact that we have to earn our place and there is a National Championship pathway through the league. We have big goals for this team and are really enjoying the challenge week in week out the conference is providing. Our girls teams have had a lot of success in the Conference and it has been helping us grow our program from both a quality and quantity standpoint.”

The next two Piedmont Conference events will be on March 20-21 at Florence Soccer Complex in Florence, S.C. and at MOBA Soccer Academy in Peachtree City, Ga. The Florence Soccer Complex event will feature 15 teams, as North Carolina teams travel to South Carolina and the MOBA Soccer Academy event will feature eight Georgia teams.
