ORLANDO, Fla. (July 21, 2023) — Following three exciting days of group play at the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships, 49 teams that competed in the USYS National League during the 2022-23 season are among the 52 sides remaining in contention for national titles.
The 2023 National Championships are taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Orlando, Fla., area, and the first champions will be crowned tonight when the 13U Boys and 13U Girls finals are played. The 14U-19U age groups will hold semifinals on Saturday morning, with teams advancing to Sunday’s championship games.
BY THE NUMBERS
National League teams at the National Championships
- Forty-nine of 52 (95%) of teams advancing out of group play competed in at least one National League competition during the 2022-23 season
- Three of the four 13U finalists competed in their respective National League Conference, and each of the three finished in first place.
- In the 14U-19U age groups, 41 of the 48 semifinalists competed in National League P.R.O., including 19 teams that finished in first place.
- Forty-six of 52 (88%) of teams advancing out of group play competed in a National League Conference in 2022-23. Of those 46 teams, 26 finished in first place in their respective conference standings, while another seven finished second and five finished third.
- Nine of the 13 NL Conferences are represented in the 13U finals or 14U-19U semifinals.
- Five teams that competed in Elite 64 have advanced to the semifinals. Of those teams, two teams finished in first place in their Elite 64 groups, while one finished in second, one finished in third and one finished in fourth.
