The very best of the USYS National League are descending on Oceanside, Calif., this week, as 116 boys teams and 104 girls teams compete at National League P.R.O.

The action in Oceanside features teams in the 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U and 19U age groups playing in a one-of-a-kind event format that matches club-based and team-based sides against each other to compete for advancement to this summer’s USYS National Championships, presented by New York Life.

All teams earned their place in National League P.R.O. through their performances at their respective playoff events earlier this season. With so many proven sides, there will be plenty of talent featuring in each game in Oceanside. Champions Pool

Each group winner from the Conference Playoffs secured the maximum possible points during play in Orlando, led by The Football Academy 2010 Boys Black (NJ) and a string of three clean sheets that saw it outscore its opponents, 8-to-0. Sporting Columbus Boys 2010 (OH) also compiled a plus-8 goal differential in three victories, while Team Challenger FC B10 Black (OH) and Barca Academy Pro Miami B2010 (FL) both each managed to win all three games in Orlando.

At the Elite 64 Playoffs, Laguna United 10 Elite 64 (CA-S) impressed on its way to winning the champions pool title. The California side shut out its opponents in each of its three wins while scoring 12 total goals.

Silver Pool

A couple of high-scoring sides to keep an eye on in this group play format will be Chicago Magic 2010 (IL) and CCV Stars 10B Elite 64 (AZ). Chicago recorded 10 goals in Orlando — tied for the most of any qualifiers coming to Oceanside from the Conference Playoffs. Meanwhile, CCV won each game at the Elite 64 Playoffs, as it scored four goals in each of its first two games before winning on penalties in its final contest.

Wildcard Pool

FBSL Tuzos Academy 2010 (AZ) won all three of its wildcard group games in November at the Elite 64 Playoffs to secure its place at National League P.R.O. Meanwhile, NW United 10B Elite 64 (WA) also impressed at the Elite 64 Playoffs with two dominant wins and a narrow defeat in penalties.

Champions Pool

All three group winners at the Conference Playoffs posted identical records, as each earned two wins and a draw. Solar South 10G FDL Adames (TX-N) did so without conceding a goal, while Galaxy SC 10G NL (IL) was also strong defensively and conceded just once. KC Legends 2010 Academy Red (KS) also impressed while winning multiple close games en route to securing 7 points in its group.

Those teams will aim to continue earning results when they travel to Oceanside, but South Valley Surf SC 10G Elite 64 (CA-S) won’t make it easy. South Valley won the champions pool at the Elite 64 Playoffs, where it outscored its opponents, 11-to-1.

Wildcard Pool

Strikers FC North 10G Elite 64 (CA-S) is one of several teams looking to build of solid moments at the playoff level when it competes in Oceanside. After dropping the first game in the Elite 64 Playoffs, Strikers rebounded to finish with two straight wins.Its last win came in a very close game against Utah Celtic FC Storm 10G Elite 64 (UT), which gained valuable of experience of its own in getting wins from two of its three tight matches in Arizona.

At the Conference Playoffs, Chattanooga FC 2010G Navy (TN) put in a strong showing while finishing second in its group. A 1-0 loss to the group winners was the lone blemish on the Tennessee side’s resume, as it picked up two wins from three games and compiled a plus-three goal differential.

Champions Pool

As the lone team in the age group to win all three of its games at the Conference Playoffs, KC Legends 2009 Academy Red (KS) will be looking to pick up right where it left off when it travels to Oceanside. Kansas City was strong at both ends, as it scored 13 goals while conceding just two.

Raiders FC 2009 (IL) led a pack of teams that secured two wins and a draw during the action in Orlando, as the Illinois side scored nine times while allowing just one goal at the Conference Playoffs.

At the Elite 64 Playoffs, Los Angeles Soccer Club 09B Elite 64 (CA-S) ran the table in the champions pool to claim the playoff title. The LA side began that event with a dominant victory and earned a 2-0 shutout in the final.

Silver Pool

Despite finishing second in its group at the Conference Playoffs, Elite 2009 Black (FL) presented plenty of problems for opponents. The Florida side was the top-scoring team in its group and came up just one goal short in its matchup against the group winner. Chicago Magic PSG 2009 (IL) followed an identical path, as its high-scoring attack came just one goal short of winning its Conference Playoffs group. Both will be teams to keep an eye on in Oceanside.

East County Surf 09B Elite 64 (CA-S) showed its resiliency at the Elite 64 Playoffs, as it overcame an opening loss to post back-to-back shutout victories — building momentum that it hopes to maintain in Oceanside.

Wildcard Pool

FBSL Tuzos-Playmakers 09B Elite 64 (AZ) ran the table at the Elite 64 Playoffs, as it earned three straight shutout victories to claim the wildcard pool’s berth to National League P.R.O. The Arizona side will look to continue that form in pursuit of a place at the National Championships. AYSO United Elite 64 09B (CA-S) also gained valuable experience during November’s action in Arizona, as it won a pair of tight games and fell in a lengthy penalty shootout in in its last silver pool match.

Champions Pool

Just one team playing in Oceanside — Cook Inlet S.C. 09 Girls Elite (AK) — won all three games during the Conference Playoffs in December. The Alaskan side conceded just one goal while winning its group, and it will aim to regain that form at National League P.R.O.

Strong defensive efforts were the storyline in December, as the other three group winners — NJ Nationals FC 09G Elite (NJ), Lonestar 09G FDL White (TX-S) and Penn Alliance Select Elite 09 (PA-E) — all ran through the Conference Playoffs without conceding a goal. Those types of performances will give any team a chance to progress at National League P.R.O., where scoreless draws go straight to penalties to decide the advancing team.

After a standout year last season, Las Vegas Surf SC 09G Elite 64 (NV) looks to once again be a strong contender to claim the top spot in the age group. It was dominant on both ends of the field while winning the Elite 64 Playoffs, and it will aim to replicate that effort in Oceanside.

Silver Pool

In a Conference Playoffs group that was defined by stout defensive play, MS Rush United 09G Premier (MS)’s offensive prowess shined through, as it scored the most goals of any of the teams. A narrow loss to the group winner is all that prevented a top finish for MS Rush, as the team also conceded just one goal and compiled the best goal differential in the age group. It will aim to use that experience when it plays in another group format in Oceanside.

Wildcard Pool

Lobos Rush 09G Elite 64 (TN) heads to Oceanside after overcoming a big test when it won the wildcard pool at the Elite 64 Playoffs. The Tennessee side used a late surge in its final game to force a penalty kick shootout tiebreaker to decide the top of the group. It won the shootout to earn its place in National League P.R.O. NJ Nationals FC 2009 Girls Elite (NJ) will be another team to watch, as it won twice during a strong showing at the Conference Playoffs.

Strikers FC North B08 Elite 64 (CA-S) is another team to watch in the champions pool, after it ran the table to win the title at the Elite 64 Playoffs. That means Strikers has valuable experience at earning results in the same tournament format it will encounter at National League P.R.O.

Silver Pool

CCV Stars 08B Elite 64 (AZ) will be aiming to regain its form from the Elite 64 Playoffs, where it won all three of its silver pool games to earn its place in National League P.R.O. The Arizona side stronger as the playoffs progressed, as it increased its goals in each game while keeping three clean sheets.

Elsewhere, Columbus United B08 Lions (OH) came one 1-0 defeat away from winning its group at the Conference Playoffs. The Ohio side will aim to get improve on that performance when it competes in the Silver Pool.

Wildcard Pool

Stout defensive efforts helped Croatian Eagles Red 2008B (WI) win the Wildcard Pool at the Elite 64 Playoffs, which allowed it to advance to National League P.R.O. The Wisconsin earned three shutouts during play in Arizona, and a similar effort in Oceanside would go a long way in its pursuit of a berth to Nationals.

Ambassadors FC 2008 Girls (OH) and Utah Celtic FC Storm 08G Elite 64 (UT) are two such teams, as they each went 3-0-0 at the Conference Playoffs. Both teams displayed strong play on both ends of the field, as they outscored opponents by 10 goals and seven goals, respectively.

Another team to watch will be South Valley Surf SC 08G Elite 64 (CA-S), which relied on the strength of its defense and goalkeeping to win the champions pool during November’s Elite 64 Playoffs. The California side won all three of its games, each by a 1-0 scoreline, and displayed a knack for earning results in high-pressure games.

AYSO United 08G Elite 64 (CA-S) came up one goal short against South Valley in the champions pool title game in November, but it showed it can navigate the tournament format that it will face in Oceanside.

Silver Pool

Having showed an ability to earn results in must-win situations, Empire Surf 2008G Elite 64 (CA-S) is a team to watch in the silver pool. Empire finished the Elite 64 Playoffs with two straight clean sheets to win the wildcard pool, and it will look to return to that form in Oceanside. The same can be said for Los Angeles SC 08G Elite 64 (CA-S), which won each of its games at the Elite 64 Playoffs.

A trio of teams — Villarreal NTX 08G (TX-N), Cook Inlet S.C. 08G Elite (AK) and DKSC 08G Talavera (TX-N) — should contend for the silver pool title after they each went unbeaten at the Conference Playoffs with identical 1-0-2 records.

Wildcard Pool

A strong showing at the Elite 64 Playoffs should have Utah Soccer Alliance 08G Elite 64 (UT) feeling some momentum as it prepares for the wildcard pool in Oceanside. The Utah side won two of its three games and compiled a plus-12 goal differential as a threatening attacking side.

Hoosier FC 2007 Elite Wolves I (IN) was one of five teams that won all three games en route to winning its group at the Conference Playoffs. The Indiana side’s attack propelled it to the best goal differential of the group winners, as it averaged more than four goals per game. On the other end of the spectrum, BVB 07B Yellow (TX-N) conceded the fewest goals — just one — of any team, as it went 3-0-0 in Orlando.

BVB’s first game in Oceanside will be against Laguna United 07 Elite 64 (CA-S), which won the champions pool title at the Elite 64 Playoffs. Laguna gained valuable experience in tight matches, as its three wins in Arizona were all close and included a penalty shootout victory in the final.

Silver Pool

As the highest scoring team at the Conference Playoffs, Spire FC 2007 Boys (OH) showed it can be a challenge for any opponent. The Ohio side came up one goal short of winning its group in Orlando, but it will now look to string together wins at National League P.R.O. Utah Soccer Alliance 07B Elite 64 (UT) posted a similar string of results during its time at the Elite 64 Playoffs. USA won two of three games, with its lone loss being a one-goal defeat to the eventual playoff title winners.

Wildcard Pool

Columbus United B’07 Lions (OH) knows the value of every single goal, as it narrowly won the wildcard pool at the Elite 64 Playoffs. The Ohio side overcame a 1-0 loss to open its weekend in Arizona by winning its next two games — including a 3-0 win to finish the event, which gave it the necessary goal differential to win the pool.

Utah Surf 07 B Hale (UT) is the lone team playing in Oceanside the won all three of its games at the Conference Playoffs. It did so by outscoring its opponents, 10-to-1, as the team put in a strong all-around performance. Surf will look to regain that form when it competes in the Champions Pool at National League P.R.O.

The other three group winners from the Conference Playoffs — MS Rush United 07G Premier (MS), FC Dallas ETX 07G Premier (TX-N) and Solar South 07G FDL Adames (NTX) — won’t be easy to get past, as they each went unbeaten while picking up two wins and a draw in December.

At the Elite 64 Playoffs, South Valley Surf SC 07G Elite 64 (CA-S) added to its club’s string of strong tournament format performances when it won the champions pool. It will now look to do the same at National League P.R.O. in Oceanside. Each of South Valley’s wins in November were tightly contested, so it has experience doing well in high-leverage situations.

Silver Pool

After picking up three victories to win the wildcard pool at the Elite 64 Playoffs, Empire Surf 2007G Elite 64 (CA-S) has proven it can excel in pressure situations. That experience should serve it well in the silver pool at National League P.R.O.

Meanwhile, Chattanooga Red Wolves 07G (TN) went unbeaten — with two wins and a draw — in its group at the Conference Playoffs. A group play format will give Chattanooga a level of familiarity that could benefit it during play in Oceanside.

Wildcard Pool

NYCFC Girls 07/08 South (NY-E) should be feeling confident after an unbeaten weekend at the Conference Playoffs in Orlando. While there, New York sandwiched a pair of 1-1 draws around a dominant shutout victory.

Los Angeles SC 07G Elite 64 (CA-S) won two games and advanced to the wildcard pool final at the Elite 64 Playoffs. Meanwhile, the only defeat for Utah Celtic FC Storm 07G Elite 64 (UT) came in a shootout against LASC, as Celtic won twice during November’s event.

Islay Smith (Defender – Utah Surf)
Smith contributed significantly at both ends of the field for an outstanding Utah Surf team that won all three of their Conference Playoff games, conceding just once. She has strong defensive instincts and quality delivery on set pieces.

Champions Pool

At the Conference Playoffs in Orlando, FC Bucks Dominion 05B (PA-E) allowed just one goal, as it won each of its three games to top its group. Dominion was one of just two teams — along with Raiders FC 2005 (IL) — to advance to Oceanside after picking up the maximum nine points during the action in Orlando. Raiders picked up its wins using the strengths of both its front and back lines, as it scored four times in two of its victories and earned a shutout in the third.

Another team to watch in Oceanside will be Laguna United 05/06 Elite 64 (CA-S). The Cal South side won all three of its games at the Elite 64 Playoffs, as it claimed the Champions Pool title. It will aim to do the same in another tournament style competition at National League P.R.O.

Silver Pool

Utah Soccer Alliance 05/06B Elite 64 (UT) knows what it takes to win three straight games and punch a ticket to the next event. It did just that at the Elite 64 Playoffs, as it strung together three victories to win the Champions Pool and secure its spot at National League P.R.O. If it can repeat that performance in Oceanside, its reward will be a berth to the National Championships.

Another Silver Pool team to watch will be MOBA 06 (GA), which went unbeaten at the Conference Playoffs and narrowly missed out on winning its group due to a goal differential tiebreaker.

Wildcard Pool

After taking part in three games decided by just goal at the Elite 64 Playoffs, CCV Stars 05B Elite 64 (AZ) brings key experience to the Wildcard Pool in Oceanside. CCV won its first two nail-biters in Arizona before a close 1-0 loss in the Wildcard Pool final.

There was no shortage of strong performances at the Conference Playoffs, as all four group winners went 3-0-0. A high-scoring offense helped DASC U19G Black (SD) compile the best goal differential of the bunch, while The Football Academy 06 Girls Black (NJ) was not far behind.

Despite finishing second in its group at the Conference Playoffs, Utah Celtic FC Storm 05/06G Elite 64 (UT) produced the second-best goal total and goal differential of the 16 teams — showing it could be a challenge for any opponent. Meanwhile, Revolution Premier SC 06G Red Zuazua (TX-N) gained valuable experience in securing a pair of one-goal victories on its way to going 3-0-0.

Strikers FC North 06G Elite 64 (CA-S) is also heading to Oceanside after three straight wins, as it came out on top of the champions pool at the Elite 64 Playoffs. Strikers put in three complete performances, as the California side scored 10 goals and conceded none.

Silver Pool

After capturing the wildcard pool title at the Elite 64 Playoffs, Los Angeles SC 05/06G Elite 64 (CA-S) will aim to continue its winning ways at National League P.R.O. LASC earned its results in increasingly difficult matches, which culminated in a thrilling 5-4 victory that featured a stoppage time winner.

A pair of necessary wins at the Elite 64 Playoffs helped CCV Stars 05G Elite 64 (AZ) advance to National League P.R.O. The Arizona side’s lone defeat at the playoffs came to LASC, when it fought back from an early deficit in an eventual 5-4 defeat. Solar 06G Grado (TX-N) displayed grit of its own at the Conference Playoffs, where it won two of its three games by tight margins, with identical 2-1 score lines in both victories.

TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 14, 2023) — Many of the top 13U and 14U Boys teams and players in the US Youth Soccer National League competed Feb. 10-13 in Tampa, Fla. The event featured teams from both National League P.R.O. and Elite 64.

The Elite 64 matches allowed players from US Youth Soccer’s top club-based league to compete against each other in unique matchups. Meanwhile, National League P.R.O. — the top team-based league in US Youth Soccer — featured games that saw league standings near their final form and teams begin to secure berths to the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

The National League P.R.O. 14U Boys age group is extremely competitive this season, as just five teams secured their place in the National Championships during play in Tampa. The remaining seventh games will determine the age group’s unclaimed seven berths to Nationals via National League P.R.O.

Two teams that clinched spots at Nationals also won their National League P.R.O. groups. Group D winner 3RSC B09 Black (WA) will represent its club for the first time at Nationals, while Rangers FC B2009 White (CA-S) will look to bring the club its third USYS National Championship.

“Coming into this weekend, we were in fourth place,” Rangers FC coach Cristian Rus said. “Winning all three games, not giving up any goals, and finishing in first place to qualify for the National Championships is a good experience for the club and for the boys. The level of competition is very good for us, and we’re really excited to play in Florida again for the National Championships.”

LOOK BACK: NATIONAL LEAGUE P.R.O.

14U Group A:

North Shore United 09B Blue (WI) won its third straight NL P.R.O. game — and second in Tampa — when it knocked off Group A co-leader DUSC B2009 Blue (NY-E), 3-1, on Saturday.

DUSC was one of four teams to enter Saturday’s matches with 9 points in the group, but North Shore came out as the aggressor and went in front in the 5th minute on Carsten Calvert’s goal. The Wisconsin side doubled its lead shortly after halftime when Lazar Angelovski found the back of the net.

North Shore added an insurance goal in the 55th minute when Colton Rabe fired his shot back across goal after dribbling into the box. Jude Grbesa pulled a goal back from DUSC, but North Shore saw out the last few minutes to earn the 3-1 victory.

North Shore completed a 9-point weekend with a win on Sunday but remains 3 points back of Juventus Miami Salihamidzic (FL), Strikers Miami FC 2009 Elite (FL) and Sporting Columbus Boys 2009 I (OH), who each have 15 points. Each team has one game left to play.

14U Group B:

A matchup of top-three teams saw NL P.R.O. 14U Group B leader Team Boca 09 Boys White (FL) come back to tie third-place BVB International Academy Pittsburgh 09B Premier (PA-W), 1-1, on Saturday in Tampa.

BVB went ahead in the 13th minute, as King Carver registered the game’s first goal. The PA West side worked to build on that lead, but Team Boca managed to level the score just before halftime. After working the ball to the end line, a cut back pass found Preston Jaffa, who placed his one-touch shot into the back of the net to send the teams into the second half tied at 1-1.

The game tightened up in the second half, and neither side managed to create a second goal, as the two sides split the points with the draw.

Second-place Club Ohio 09B National (OH) also tied on Saturday to remain two points back of Team Boca, and the Ohio side won the head-to-head matchup against Team Boca on Sunday to move to the top of the group following the action in Tampa. All teams in the group have one game left to play.

14U Group C:

Barca Academy Pro Miami 09 PRO (FL) won a matchup of the co-leaders in an ultra-competitive NL P.R.O. Group C with a 3-1 victory over Oregon Premier FC 09B Academy (OR). Entering play on Sunday, seven of the eight teams in the group were still in contention for a first-place finish.

The Florida side grabbed a 20th-minute lead behind a Landon McKelvey strike, but Oregon replied through a 35th-minute Dominic Bolouri goal to level the score at 1-1.

McKelvey put Barca back in front in the 59th minute when he hit a slicing shot around the keeper and into the back of the net. He completed a hat trick later in the game with a key insurance goal that helped Barca pull away for the 3-1 win.

Barca is cemented on 12 points after playing all of its league games, but remaining 7th games will determine the eventual group winner. Seven of the teams remain within three points of top-two positions following the games in Tampa.

14U Group D:

In their final matchup of the weekend KC Legends 2009 Academy (KS) picked up its second win in Tampa, narrowly keeping Total Futbol Club 09 Gold (MD) at bay.

The Maryland side created several opportunities early on, including a 1-on-1 breakaway by Travis Meadows. Kansas City’s keeper, Ricardo Amescua-Negrete, came up big with a slide tackle just outside of the box to foil the attempt. A free kick into the Total Futbol Club box in the 44th minute bounced around until Jackson Raney was able to knock it in to give Legends the lead.

Total Futbol Club pushed to find an equalizer in the second half with multiple dangerous corners and free kicks coming up just short. The Raney goal proved to be the difference, as KC Legends defense prevailed to secure a clean sheet which allowed them to walk away with a 1-0 victory. This win provided Kansas City with a much needed 3-points to move them up to the second spot in Group D with only one game remaining.

Fueled by a defense that conceded just twice, 3RSC B09 Black (WA) won the group with a 7-0-0 record.

14U Group E:

Rangers FC B2009 White (CA-S) defeated Liverpool FCIA Ann Arbor 09B Academy (MI), 1-0, on Sunday to complete a strong weekend in Tampa that saw the Cal South side climb from fourth place to win the 14U Group E title.

An evenly played game saw each side generate some good chances in the first half. Liverpool keeper Sam Beach dropped down to save a header attempt in the 25th minute. The Michigan side nearly went up a few minutes later when Evan Alongi got on the end of a through ball, but Rangers keeper Justin Covarrubias quickly came off his line to make the save.

Dylan Rodel netted a 42nd-minute goal that put Rangers in front and proved to be the game-winner, as Rangers held on to secure the NL P.R.O. Group E title.

LOOK BACK: ELITE 64

Saturday:

Two top-seeded Elite 64 teams met for the first time this season in Tampa, which produced a close, competitive match to kick off Saturday morning. Lobos Rush Elite 64 09B (9-0-0, South Conference) looked to continue its unbeaten streak as it took on Greater Libertyville Soccer Association Elite 64 09B (3-1-0, Midwest Conference).

Both teams had a high-pressure, possession-focused play style that kept the matchup action-packed. In an engaging first half, each side generated chances until the 19th minute when the ball found the back of the net in Libertyville’s favor. An Oscar Rubio goal gave the Illinois side the lead.

Lobos Rush was determined to even the score and continued creating close opportunities. However, Libertyville held firm defensively to clinch the 1-0 victory.

Michigan Tigers FC Elite 64 10B came out guns a blazing, producing the game’s first goal through a Dame Behm strike within the 1st minute of the match. Looking to keep the momentum going, Behm capitalized on a bad defensive touch inside the box to snag his second goal 10 minutes later. Behm capped off a stunning hattrick after just 18 minutes of action when he found the back of the net once again.

With the Tigers keeper pushing high out of the box, Lobos Rush Elite 64 10B pushed with a quick counter resulting in a goal from Randy Butler in the 23rd minute to keep them in contention. The Tennessee side continued to put high pressure on the Michigan defense, forcing a clear back into Lobos’s possession just outside the 18-yard box. Brayden Cook took advantage of the Tigers’ goalkeeper being off his line and snagged a second goal for the Lobos just before the half.

However, the Lobos’ comeback attempt came up just short, as the Tigers held on for the 3-2 win to open their weekend in Tampa.

Sunday:

Sunday morning started with a West Coast showdown as Desert Conference, Sparta United Elite 64 09B, faced off with Pacific Conference foes Legends FC (CA) Elite 64 09B, in a high-scoring match.

Sparta United grabbed an early lead with a finish off a corner by Anders Theurer in the 2nd minute.  Legends FC’s Jesse Gonzalez promptly fired back with a goal 7 minutes later off a cross by Daniel Diaz. Looking to pull ahead Sparta United’s Bassil Kurdi crashed the goal finding the back of the net off a rebounded shot in the 22nd minute. Just before the half, Logan Willis curved a corner kick just out of the keeper’s reach to give Sparta United a 3-1 advantage.

An Alan Nunez goal in the 43rd minute put Legends FC back in the game. Kien Cid replied with two goals in the 45th and 58th minute to maintain Sparta United’s lead. The California side rallied back one more time with Nunez securing a second goal in the 70th minute, but Sparta United held on to finish with a 5-3 victory.

After dropping a close game in its first game in Tampa, Ohio Galaxies FC Elite 64 10B earned a 2-1 victory on Sunday against United Futbol Academy Elite 64 10B.

Jonah Lentz gave Ohio an early lead when he found the back of the net in the 9th minute. The game flowed from end to end, with United FA creating several chances for an equalizer. However, the combination of Ohio keepers Jackson Lewis and Reece Nesbitt helped keep the Georgia side of the scoreboard for more than an hour.

United FA, coming off a high-scoring win on Saturday, finally equalized on Julian Rodriguez-Martinez’s 61st-minute penalty kick. The Galaxies regrouped and netted a late game-winner, as Jason Addo got on the end of a cross and fired it under the bar to give Ohio the 2-1 victory.

Monday:

Michigan Tigers FC Elite 64 09B and Toca FC Elite 64 09B each entered Monday’s matchup looking to complete a 3-0-0 weekend in Tampa. The two sides played a very tight game, but an early goal helped Michigan Tigers come away with a 1-0 victory.

The Tigers started off on the attack in the opening moments and broke through just five minutes into the game. After an initial shot was deflected by the keeper, Michigan’s Benjamin Booth finished into an open net to put his side in front.

The sides battled for the next goal, with each team’s best opportunity coming in the final 10 minutes. Toca nearly equalized in the 60th minute when a corner kick was headed just over the bar, and the Tigers forced Toca keeper Joshua Favreau into a nice save at the near post minutes later. Michigan held on to its narrow lead through the final minutes to earn the 1-0 victory.

The final round of Elite 64 matches for the weekend brought two top-of-the-table teams, Liverpool FC-IA Michigan Elite 64 09B (5-0-1, Great Lakes) and United Futbol Academy Elite 64 09B (4-1-1, Southeast), together with both looking to keep their unbeaten streak in Tampa alive.

United Futbol Academy struck first courtesy of Yovany Villagomez Seratto, whose 17th-minute goal pulled UFA into a 1-0 lead. Eager to find an equalizer, Atabong Agbor-Baiyee replied with a Liverpool goal 12 minutes later.

Liverpool generated several opportunities as it looked to grab its first lead of the game. Despite sustained pressure in the attacking third, the Michigan side couldn’t find a second goal. With one of its few second-half chances, UFA regained the lead when Damian Barcenas sent in a rocket shot in the 67^th minute that proved to be the difference.

During the action in Tampa, 10 teams in the 14U Girls age group secured their place in the National Championships via National League P.R.O., including defending National Champion KCL Academy Red 2009 NL (KS).

KCL was one of two teams to win their National League P.R.O. 14U Girls group title, along with Wasatch SC 09G PO (UT), while in Tampa. The Utah side went 5-0-2 over the course of the season en route to the Group A title, with five of its seven matches decided by one goal or less.

“We knew coming in that this was going to be very tough competition,” Wasatch coach Patrick Otte said. “Every team we’ve played against has been amazing. It was our goal [to win National League P.R.O.], but to actually do it is a phenomenal feeling. The girls were so excited, and I’m immensely proud of all of them.”

LOOK BACK: NATIONAL LEAGUE P.R.O.

14U Group A:

Solar 09G FDL Grado/Colvin (TX-N) and Coppermine SC Girls 2009 Elite 64 (MD) faced off on Sunday in a NL P.R.O. 14U Group A clash with a potential spot in the National Championships on the line.

Knowing a win would secure a trip to Nationals, the teams wasted little time in ramping up the action. Coppermine went in front in the 3rd minute behind a Catherine Ruopp strike, but Solar quickly replied to level the score at 1-1.

Coppermine had periods of sustained time in the attacking third during the second half as it looked for a go-ahead goal. Christina Mitchell nearly provided the vital goal in the 48th minute, but Solar keeper Cinnamon Hurst lunged to push the ball wide.

Solar managed to hold on to force the 1-1 tie. With other results in the group, the point was enough to help the North Texas side lock up third place and a spot in Nationals. Wasatch SC 09G PO (UT) won the group with a 5-0-2 record on the season, while Lonestar 09G FDL (TX-S) finished second.

14U Group B:

A back-and-forth game saw Legends IE G09 (CA-S) hold 14U Group B leader BC United 09G (NY-W) to a 2-2 draw on Sunday. Both sides — along with third-place PA Dominion 09 Girls (PA-E) — clinched spots to Nationals during play in Tampa, but Sunday’s draw means the group title is still undecided.

Legends took a lead into the second half on Sunday, as Aliyah Casillas provided the lone goal in the first 35 minutes. However, a great individual effort by BC United’s Shannon Kingsbury in the 41st minute saw her hold off a defender and finesse her shot into the far corner. Kingsbury netted her second goal five minutes later to put BC United in front, 2-1.

After BC United went down a player, Legends equalized in the 62nd minute on a Sophia Garcia goal that forced the 2-2 tie. Both sides have a game to play, with BC United ahead by two points in the standings.

14U Group C:

Brandon FC RSC 09G Premier (MS) secured its fourth consecutive win with a 2-1 victory against NLSA 2009 Girls Elite (NJ) on Friday. This win kept Brandon in the running for the top spot in Group C.

Brandon FC grabbed a goal in the 30th minute of action by Destinee Bridges. NLSA quickly responded with an equalizer by Amelia Berent from a free kick just before the half. Brandon FC came back strong in the second half, with a Kinsley Yearick goal in the 38th minute to put them in lead. With the wind at their back Brandon FC’s defensive line held strong to clinch the 2-1 win.

KCL Academy Red 2009 NL (KS) later edged Brandon, 2-1, in a Sunday matchup that helped the Kansas side clinch the group title. Meanwhile, Brandon won its game on Monday to secure a berth to Nationals.

14U Group D:

Keystone FC Premier 09G (PA-E) maintained its lead atop NL P.R.O. 14U Group D and clinched its spot at the National Championships with a hard fought 3-1 win against Alliance FC 09 Academy Girls (MO) on Sunday.

The Eastern PA side went in front in the 9th minute when Madison Walker made a run into the box and directed a squared ball with a first-touch finish. However, Alliance — which is also in position to advance to Nationals — responded well and equalized through a Delani Edling goal.

Keystone regained its lead with a 48th-minute goal from Alyssa Valentine, and it worked hard to fend off some late sustained pressure from Alliance. The group leaders sealed their win when Cecilia Battisti slipped a pass to Mackenzie Seiber for the final goal in Keystone’s 3-1 win.

Club Ohio Dayton 09G Elite (OH) won its game to remain in contention for the group title with 7th games remaining for all Group D sides.

LOOK BACK: ELITE 64

Saturday:

Legends FC Elite 64 10G (CA) walked away with a 2-0 victory after their coastal clash with United Futbol Academy Elite 64 10G (GA).

United FA, currently sitting second in the Southeast group, looked to continue its undefeated streak in its first Tampa matchup against third-ranked Pacific foe Legends FC. Despite each side creating scoring opportunities, both teams were locked in a defensive stalemate keeping the score to 0-0 at the half.

The second half began with the California side bringing the heat with a goal off a header from Kelly Wieckowski from a cross by Alexandra De la Vega. Legends FC’s unwavering defensive line kept Georgia’s advances at bay, while Georgina Herrera grabbed a second goal in the 70^th minute, securing Legends FC’s 2-0 win.

Sunday:

Rockford Raptors FC Elite 64 09G and Utah Avalanche Elite 64 09G were ready to rumble for Day 2 of Elite 64 action in Tampa, as both teams looked to get their second win of the weekend.

The opening half traded chances with both groups coming close to pulling ahead, but neither side was able to convert. Part way through the second half, Utah Avalanche struck first with a goal from Savannah Bates.

Rockford generated multiple opportunities during play but Utah’s keeper and the defensive line held firm, disrupting all incoming chances. The Raptors continued to apply high pressure, accumulating much of the possession late in the second half. With just seconds left in stoppage time, Aubrianna Magana launched a cross deep into the box, which snuck into the net to force the 1-1 tie.

Monday:

Two Elite 64 group leaders squared off Monday in Tampa, as Las Vegas Surf SC Elite 64 09G defeated Chicago Inter Elite 64 09G, 3-1.

LV Surf (6-0-0, Pacific) used quick transitions from defense to attack to open up the Chicago Inter defense and create several first-half opportunities. Evelyn Contreras’ speed helped her track down a ball at the end line in the 14th minute, and her cut back pass found Madalynn Smith for the opening goal.

Chicago Inter (10-0-0, Midwest) replied immediately off the restart and leveled the game through Meara Moehlenkamp’s strike. However, Contreras fired a 28th-minute shot off the inside of the far post to regain the lead for Vegas.

Chicago limited the Surf counter opportunities in the second half, but Alexa Sandoval added a late insurance goal to help Las Vegas to the 3-1 win.

MESA, Ariz. (Jan. 26, 2023) — Several of the top 15U-19U Girls teams and players in the US Youth Soccer National League competed Jan. 19-21 in Mesa, Ariz. The event featured teams from both National League P.R.O. and Elite 64, and all games took place at Bell Bank Park, Powered by Legacy Sports USA.

The Elite 64 matches allowed players from US Youth Soccer’s top club-based league to compete against each other in unique matchups. Meanwhile, National League P.R.O. — the top team-based league in US Youth Soccer — featured games that saw league standings near their final form and teams begin to secure berths to the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

During the action in Mesa, 31 girls teams secured their place in the National Championships via National League P.R.O., including defending champion Galaxy 08G Blue (IL).

“It feels amazing. We worked really hard for this. It feels good to come here and play all these amazing teams and know we can compete here,” said Galaxy midfielder Elizabeth Burfeind after her team won its National League P.R.O. group. “Every team here is extremely talented. There were tight margins. I know before coming to Arizona, there were three teams in the running for the top.

“We’re extremely excited. Nationals is a great event and we’re looking forward to being able to go back there.”

“Once again, we got to see the best girls teams in Elite 64 and National League P.R.O. competing at the same event,” National League Commissioner Simon Collins said. “While the Arizona temperatures were cold, the on-field competition provided plenty of heat — seeing our top teams from across the country fighting hard to either earn their place at Nationals through NL P.R.O. or to prove their status in the club-based Elite 64 — making it an amazing event.

“We can’t wait to see the girls in the younger age groups continue the great performances when they take the field Feb. 3-6 in Tampa.”

15U Girls

The top four teams in NL P.R.O. 15U Group A faced off on Friday, including a matchup between 4-0-0 sides FC Somers Lady Hammers (NY-E) and KC Fusion Academy 08 (KS).

The Eastern New York side came out on the front foot and generated a couple of attempts on goal in the first five minutes of the game. However, KC Fusion goalkeeper Jamie Ricker gathered in both shots to prevent an early breakthrough.

FC Somers continued its sharp play while controlling the flow of the game for a majority of the first half. KC Fusion grew into the game, and each side generated some attacking pressure in the final 40 minutes. However, neither team managed to create a game-winner, and they split the points in a scoreless draw.

Saturday’s results allowed Galaxy 2008 Girls Blue (IL) to clinch the group title, while both FC Somers and KC Fusion clinched top-three finishes and berths to Nationals.

16U Girls

Ginga FC 07G Elite PRO NL (CT) won a battle of NL P.R.O. 16U Group A co-leaders on Saturday, as it defeated Keystone Athletic 07G Black (PA-E), 2-0.

The Connecticut side opened the scoring in the 22nd minute thanks to an Isabella Millburn goal. Keystone threatened the Ginga net as it looked for an equalizer, but Ginga managed to carry its lead into the second half.

Bianca Maciel doubled the Ginga lead off of a 44th-minute corner kick, as she jumped on a loose ball at the near post and hammered it into the roof of the goal — helping Ginga to the 2-0 win.

A Galaxy SC 2007 CvC (IL) win prevented Ginga from clinching the title, as that will come down to remaining 7th games.

17U Girls

NUSA 06G Maroon (TN) clinched a top-two finish in 17U Group A with a hard fought 1-0 win against third-place La Roca Bravo 06 Girls (UT) on Saturday.

After NUSA generated some early chances, it managed to break through and grab a crucial lead shortly before halftime. Hayley Zehnder got around the defense on the right wing and hit a perfectly weighted chip from a tight angle over the rushing keeper and into the back of the net — putting NUSA up, 1-0, in the 40th minute.

That proved to the be difference, as NUSA held on to secure the clean sheet and berth to the National Championships. MI Rangers FC 06G Elite (MI) won on Saturday to win the Group A title via goal differential over NUSA.

18U Girls

DKSC 05G Weir (TX-N) picked up a key 3-0 win against Eastern Elite 2005 Girls (KY) on Friday to keep pace at the top of the 18U Group A standings. The North Texas side was tied with LFA Tottleben 2005G (MO) on 13 points after five games.

Eastern Elite proved difficult to break down, but DKSC’s Ava Little managed to put her side in front in the 10th minute when she held off a defender and smashed a shot high and to the near post. That goal held up until the 64th minute, when Cierra Castillo doubled the DKSC advantage. Arianna Darquea added a late insurance goal to help clinch the 3-0 victory for DKSC.

DKSC qualified for the National Championships with Friday’s win, while Saturday’s results allowed LFA to clinch the Group A title.

19U Girls

Thursday’s matchup between defending National Champion Galaxy SC 04/05 Blue (IL) and KCSG Elite 04G (KS) held big implications in 19U Group A, as both teams entered the game as part of a three-way tie for second place.

Anna Johnson helped put Galaxy in front with a pair of first-half goals. Following a 14th-minute save by KCSG keeper Madison Sibbing, Johnson chipped in the rebound to put Galaxy in front. She later made a well-timed near-post run to finish her second goal of the half, putting Galaxy ahead, 2-0, after 31 minutes.

KCSG fought back and pulled within a goal in the 65th minute, as Eleanor Stafford drilled a free kick from distance that flew off the underside of the crossbar and into the net. KCSG generated some half-chances while looking for an equalizer, but Galaxy managed to hold on for the key 2-1 win — improving it to 3-1-0 on the season.

STLDA 2004G Rangers (MO) completed a 7-0-0 season in Mesa to win the group, while Galaxy and KCSG each picked up enough points to secure their spots at Nationals.

MESA LOOK BACK: ELITE 64

15U Girls

During the third and final day of Elite 64 showcase action in Mesa, Lobos Rush E64 08G and Real Colorado E64 08G’s contest was yet another evenly played match.

Despite the chill in the air, the two sides provided a match that was full of entertainment. Lobos Rush struck first, as Hayden Moneymaker converted her team’s best chance of the game in the 29th minute. Real Colorado wasted no time answering, though. Reece Mervin’s goal just two minutes later brought the sides level once more.

Lobos Rush came close to going ahead multiple times, accumulating much of the possession and finding themselves in Real Colorado’s defensive half for long stretches of play. It proved a tough task to break down the opposition’s defense, however, and both sides left with a draw to finish out the weekend in Mesa.

16U Girls

JB Marine Soccer Club Elite 64 07G and Valor Soccer Elite 64 07G got off to a flying start in their first matchup of National League Mesa. Following a surge of early goal-scoring, JB Marine managed to hold off Valor to secure a 2-1 win to begin the week in Arizona.

Valor grabbed the early advantage, as it needed less than two minutes to generate the opening goal, which Tatiana Stephenson placed into the back of the net. It didn’t take long for JB Marine to respond, as Edia O’Basuyi pulled her side even with a 9th-minute strike.

The deadlock lasted less than 10 minutes, as JB Marine grabbed its first lead of the game with a 17th-minute tally from Katherine Ferris. The Ferris goal proved to be the difference, as JB Marine held on for the narrow win.

In its league season, JB Marine has seen six of its 10 games decided by a goal or less.

17U Girls

Following two impressive shutout victories to start off the weekend in Mesa, Utah Avalanche Elite 64 06G added one more to its total during its last game on Saturday. In a tough showdown against GTFC Impact Elite 64 06G, the side from Utah prevailed 2-0.

The Avalanche’s cohesion was on full display early, with constant communication aiding an impressive display of teamwork and passing. Early shots on goal put GTFC under pressure, but they were able to hold on for most of the first half.

It took until the 37th minute for Utah Avalanche, but Jade Mirable’s goal put her side in front after a deserving stretch of play. Ruth Larsen was able to double her team’s lead in the 76th minute, securing the win and solidifying a dominant weekend out west.

18/19U Girls

Utah Avalanche Elite 64 04/05G picked up its second showcase win in as many days, holding off a tough Lobos Rush Elite 64 04/05G team Friday afternoon.

Rylie Beck’s early goal, which came in the sixth minute, was enough to ultimately separate the two teams — but not before a nervy finish. Lobos Rush’ push to find an equalizer saw them come close multiple times, garnering multiple dangerous free kicks and corners in the second half but narrowly missing.

Even though they faced more pressure as the minutes went on, Utah Avalanche maintained composure throughout the match to earn a second shutout win in Mesa.

MESA, Ariz. (Jan. 26, 2023) — Several of the top 15U-19U Boys teams and players in the US Youth Soccer National League competed Jan. 22-24 in Mesa, Ariz. The event featured teams from both National League P.R.O. and Elite 64, and all games took place at Bell Bank Park, Powered by Legacy Sports USA.

The Elite 64 matches allowed players from US Youth Soccer’s top club-based league to compete against each other in unique matchups. Meanwhile, National League P.R.O. — the top team-based league in US Youth Soccer — featured games that saw league standings near their final form and teams begin to secure berths to the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

During the action in Mesa, 18 boys teams secured their place in the National Championships via National League P.R.O.

“It feels amazing. We set that goal for ourselves at the start of the season,” said defender Bo Robertson of 19U Group A winner Oregon Premier 04/05B (OR). “Right when we joined National League P.R.O., we had our eyes set on winning it the whole time. Now, it’s winning Nationals. Our priorities change, and we’re not satisfied yet.

“Playing some of greatest competition in the nation is an honor, especially to finish on top of National League P.R.O.”

15U Boys

Utah Celtic FC 08 Boys (UT) earned its sixth win in as many games with a 2-0 victory against Savannah United 08B Premier (GA) on Tuesday — helping Celtic clinch the top spot in NL P.R.O. 15U Group B.

Needing a win to clinch the group title, Celtic grabbed an early advantage with a goal in the 6th minute of action. The Utah side took another step closer to securing a first-place finish by doubling its lead through a Chris Castro strike in the 36th minute.

The Celtic back line held strong in the second half, as the team secured its fourth clean sheet of the season en route to the 2-0 victory and Group B title.

16U Boys

Four 16U Group A teams entered Monday unbeaten, but just two walked away without losses as the top four sides in the standings matched up in Mesa.

Tied for second place with identical 3-0-1 records, Hoosier FC 2007 Elite Wolves (IN) and Bethesda Blue 2007 (MD) played a closely contested game that came down to the final minutes. After controlling several periods of play throughout the contest, Hoosier FC finally broke through in the final minutes. Shawn Houser received a 78th-minute through ball on the right side of the box and hammered a shot to the near post that found the net — providing the difference in Hoosier’s 1-0 victory.

The win allowed Hoosier FC to move to the top of the standings, thanks to a 4-0 Spire FC 2007 Boys (OH) win over previous group leader Potomac Premier I 07B (MD) on Monday.

Hoosier won its final game in Mesa to clinch the Group A title, while the second spot in the group is still up in the air with some seventh games left to play.

17U Boys

Two of the teams that entered Tuesday in a three-way tie atop the 17U Group C standings squared off on their final day in Mesa, as Dix Hills EST Ultimatum B2006 (NY-E) and Juventus Miami Buffon (FL) played to a 1-1 draw.

The first strike of the game came courtesy of Garfield Gillespie, whose 25th-minute goal put Dix Hills in front, 1-0. The Eastern New York side’s lead lasted just 10 minutes, as Jordan Bueso netted an equalizer for Juventus to send the teams into the second half knotted at 1-1.

Juventus enjoyed periods of play in the attacking third and saw a couple half-chances narrowly miss the mark. Neither side managed to produce a winner in the final minutes, and they settled for a split of the points with the draw. Arsenal FC of Pittsburgh 06B Academy (PA-W) won its final game in Arizona to take sole possession of first place in Group C with one game remaining for all sides.

18U Boys

Potomac Blue 05B (MD) came away with a crucial three points on Monday in an extremely tight 18U Group B, as it secured a 3-2 win against Future SA 05 (NJ).

Future grabbed the opening goal from a corner kick, as Aidan Browen sent a 22nd-minute near-post header into the net. Potomac replied quick from a corner of its own when Azaria Tewodros followed an initial attempt that hit the crossbar and headed in the rebound.

The Maryland side went up before halftime with another assist from the woodwork, as Eyakeam Samson followed up a shot off the post and hit it into the open net. Potomac added a third in the 87th minute when Samson squared a ball to Joe Emmanuel Balumuene for a first-touch finish. Future immediately responded with a flicked volley by Alexander Hlawacz, but Potomac held on in the final minutes to claim the 3-2 win.

Four teams are still alive for the top-two finishes in Group B, with each side having its seventh game left to play.

19U Boys

Spire FC 2004 Boys (OH) completed an unbeaten 19U Group B campaign with a 3-1 win on Tuesday against ID Houston Legends 04B (TX-S) — giving the Ohio side the NL P.R.O. group title.

Spire wasted little time in gaining an advantage, as Petar Janjetovic netted the opener in just the 3rd minute. Colin Link doubled the Spire lead when he found the back of the net in the 26th minute, but ID Houston pulled a goal back shortly after when Kenneth Escobar Lopez scored to cut the Spire lead to 2-1 after a busy opening 30 minutes.

Nolan Spicer helped extend the Spire lead back to two goals, as his 56th-minute strike put his side in front, 3-1. Spire did well to see out the final 35 minutes and secured the win it needed to clinch first place in Group B.

MESA LOOK BACK: ELITE 64

15U Boys

Fresh off winning its first two showcase games at National League Mesa, Sporting Blue Valley Elite 64 08B saved its best performance for last. Dispatching Princeton SA Elite 64 08B 3-0, Sporting cemented an undefeated week against some top competition.

Alexander Cadena opened the scoring in the first half, putting his side in front in the third minute. Even though the score remained as such for the rest of the period, Sporting Blue Valley frequently threatened for more and came close numerous times.

Connor Dierks’ second-half double, with goals coming in the 50th and 79th minutes, put the marks on a deserving win and a strong showing out west for the side from Kansas.

16U Boys

Chicago FC United Elite 64 07B and Boise Timbers I Thorns Elite 64 07B’s draw provided a great opportunity for both teams in their first E64 showcase match out west.

Chicago FC United struck first, with Adrian Jaramillo’s eighth-minute goal giving his side an early edge. Boise Timbers made sure not to fall behind for long, however, and Fabian Arguello’s headed goal leveled the game once more in the 19th minute.

In a competitive second half, the side from Oregon had the best chance to go ahead. Following a foul from FC United, Boise Timbers had a golden opportunity in the form of a penalty kick, but FC United’s keeper made a terrific save to keep the game even.

17U Boys

National League Mesa’s Elite 64 showcase play was highly competitive throughout the event, and Chicago FC United Elite 64 06B and Princeton SA Elite 64 06B’s contest provided one final entertaining match.

Both teams entered the finale having produced strong offensive efforts out west, with each breaking the five-goal mark in one of their prior two matches.

Chicago FC United and Princeton SA were evenly matched, though, and instead of a high-scoring affair, this was a close game with a one goal margin. Kyle Moore’s 57th minute winner for Princeton was the difference in this one and proved a fitting sendoff in Mesa.

18/19U Boys

Following a win in its first showcase match during National League Mesa, El Paso Locomotive Academy Elite 64 04/05B’s performance against Oregon Premier FC Elite 64 04/05B set them up to play for an undefeated week during its finale tomorrow.

Peleg Armendariz’s follow-up effort on a saved shot produced the first goal for El Paso in the eighth minute. The South Texas squad used that initial goal to propel them into the half with a lead, where they would go on take control of the match in the second period.

Diego Garcia added El Paso’s second in the 52nd minute after dispossessing Oregon Premier deep in their own half, and then Peleg Armendariz’s added his second of the day — a cool finish from the penalty spot — just three minutes later. Rodrigo Chavira put the finishing touches on an impressive performance for El Paso with a goal in the 75th minute, cementing a strong shutout win.
